The Trans-Atlantic Sports Romantic! - by TheMach

The dawning of a new era. . .

May 25th 2011 23:36
Welcome, wilkommen, bienvenue and howdy folks!!

As the previous owner of the 'footdaily' blog vacated the position I have filled the void. May I first say how much of a pleasure it is and to greet the daily readers and/or subscribers to this blog. I will endeavour to keep you on even though there has been a changing of the guard.
I notice the previous owner saw 'football' in the light of Australian Rules. They talk about the blind leading the blind, but that's wht it would be if I tried to continue this trend. Instead I write of football in it's more Western sense, 11 a-side Barclays Premier Leaguey, Messi-y, Ronaldo-y soccery football and of course American Football, in the form of the NFL.

You have found your way into the patriotic mind and world of me, Chris Machin, a.k.a the Trans Atlantic Sports Romantic. I'm a well travelled Brit, who sleeps and breathes sport. It began with Football, moved quickly onto Cricket, took a detour into Wrestling and then leapt 'across the pond' and finally washed upon to the glorious shores of the United States...

As well as harbouring personal aspirations to become a big-time sports blogger, writer, columnist or reporter, I use most of my free time to bath in the glory, blood, sweat and tears of the sporting world. I enjoy it, I crave it, to me a daily dose of NFL or Champions League action to name but a few, is like a fix to a junkie.

I'm a season ticket holder with the (current) Barclays Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers. I use the word 'current' in brackets back there because I am well aware of what you're all thinking, that I won't be able to use that tag for much longer. Still, they represent where I was born, where I grew up and more or less all I really know up to this point. The Wolves gave me my baptism into the world of sport, being a spectator but more importantly a first hand fan, to sit in the stands surrounded by thousands of other strangers who each relish in the opportunity of achieving that one common goal, is a togetherness that cannto be duplicated anywhere else around the world.

Aside from this I enjoy watching and playing Cricket, have recently opened my eyes to the world of Golf after that unbelievable Master's tournament at Augusta in 2011. I also follow the Wolverhampton team in Speedway and have a fleeting interest in the ever changing world of Formula One.

It was upon a pilgrimage to the United States to see Bruce Springsteen (my musical hero) perform in his home state of New Jersey that I was exposed to the wonderful world of North American Sport. As I have christened it 'The Land of the 3 letter acronym', there was so much more to get my teeth into than we have here in the UK and so much more opportunity to broaden my sporting horizons. NBA, NFL, NHL, WWE, MLB, there was something for everyone, there was also all of it for me! I was fascinated by the American audience when I saw the New York Giants play at Giants Stadium while I was there first time round, and also captivated by all the imaginative and outrageous names that the teams or franchises were given. There seemed to be an obsession with animals; over here we get United, City, Town and Wanderers, in the States they opt for Tigers, Falcons, Jaguars and even Orioles!

My blog will nitpick from all areas of the Trans-Atlantic sporting calendar. The good thing is there is always a door opening and one closes, with so many sports in my metaphoric arsenal, I never get the end of season blues, because as one season comes to a close, another league is beginning again. I now boast a favourite team for most sports mentioned above and I will mainly be focusing on them, moreover I will also give any generalisations about the sport itself, how the season is shaping up and also put my brash predictions out there for y'all to tear apart and tell me I'm a complete A-hole for even thinking it let alone broadcasting it on a major blogging site.

Thankyou all for your time, if you've got this far I know I still have you your patience and interest is invaluable to someone who has aspirations such as my own to take this thing to a whole new level, so please check back as I'm sure to have something to say on a daily basis, leave your feedback, agree or disagree, it's all good baby!
